Sadly, Maurice Sendak died this morning. He was a brilliant illustrator and a very funny man. I have great childhood memories of discovering Where the Wild Things Are  and In the Night Kitchen. But I have even more wonderful memories of sharing these stories with classes of students who came to visit the library.

“But the wild things cried, “Oh please don’t go – we’ll eat you up – we love you so!”
And Max said, “No!”
The wild things roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws but Max stepped into his private boat and waved goodbye.”
Maurice Sendak

Here is a video on him reflecting on life and the magic of childhood.

I encourage you to share your Maurice Sendak memories. His stories will remain a part of our hearts and our libraries for a very long time.
