UDL and Library Learning Commons: A Perfect Match

Block A Session 10:15 – 11:00 AM

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is an educational framework that aims to respond to the needs of all through flexible learning environments. Similarly, within the library learning commons, we strive to meet the needs of all our users. Join us for this hands-on workshop as we learn about the UDL principles and how to apply them in our libraries. You will have the opportunity to explore simple ways to create a UDL friendly environment.

Sandra Bebbington

Sandra Bebbington is a librarian and educator by day and a student by night. For ten years her focus has been information literacy, digital citizenship, education technology, gamification and library learning commons. For the past 8 years, Sandra has been collaborating on two dossiers at the Quebec Ministry of Education-English Sector Services : Information Literacy and Digital Citizenship. She also works on the QSLiN committee. Sandra has also taught information literacy and critical thinking at Bishop’s University. She loves fusing games and learning and making people think outside of the box, so she animates Breakout/escape room learning situations at various public libraries,as well as in classrooms and at conferences. Sandra is also the head of communications for the Quebec Library Association and the editor in chief for their quarterly bulletin. She is also on the Canadian School Libraries editorial board. In her spare time, (usually between 3AM and 4AM) Sandra is finishing up a postgraduate degree at Harvard on Learning Design and Technology.

Caroline Dupuis

Caroline has a B. Ed. degree and a DESS (graduate diploma) in educational technology. She is an education consultant on loan of service to the Ministry of Education- DSCA on projects that addresses digital citizenship and information literacy. She is currently completing a Master’s Degree in Education. She will return to the English Montreal School Board (EMSB) in the Fall as the RECIT consultant and continue to provide ongoing support for both teachers and consultants for the purposeful integration of ICT. Throughout the years as a consultant she coordinated professional development for teachers and collaboratively implemented cross-curricular initiatives to support student learning while engaging in many other interesting related projects.
