Many librarians are using Twitter for professional development, to stay in touch with the library community, find tips and ideas that they can use in their own libraries or share with teachers and keeping up to date with new developments and trends in technology, books and even general news.

Twitter is a social media tool that is often seen as forbidding because of the trickiness of getting messages across in 140 characters, learning about hashtags and followers, and understanding Twitter’s own particular lingo. If you or a colleague that you know has been putting off trying Twitter, have a look at Twitter 101: 5-Step Guide for Social Media in Education and perhaps print it out too so that you can follow the instructions as you set up your account. It’s much easier to use than you think.
