Building Your Collection: Picture Books That Support Sexuality Education Themes

Session Description:

Looking for books that support classroom teachers as they cover sexuality education themes in grades 1-4? This workshop will present new, recently published picture books (as well as some time-tested classics), that can be used to address the following topics: Emotions, Interpersonal Relationships and Gender Stereotypes & Identities. While the presentation will be given in English, French picture books will be included as well.

Presenter Bios:

Alissa Rosellini

Alissa Rosellini is a board level librarian at the English Montreal School Board (EMSB). She has worked in a variety of private and public school libraries in both the U.S. and Canada. Along with her two board librarian colleagues, she manages the EMSB Virtual Library, a curated collection of online resources for teachers and students. As a passionate proponent of children’s and young adult literature, she is involved in planning both the Montreal YA Fest (a young adult literature festival) and the Montreal-wide Battle of the Books competition.

 

 

Anne-Marie De Silva

Anne-Marie De Silva has been the Sex Education and Ethics & Religious Culture Consultant for the EMSB for the past 10 years. She has worked closely with EMSB library personnel to provide recent, pertinent, age-appropriate resources to educators addressing the sexuality education content in their classrooms. Themes include emotions, interpersonal relationships, gender identity, and a comprehensive view of sexuality in all its dimensions.
