In April 2017, we visited Beechwood Elementary (Lester B. Pearson School Board) and met with Principal Nicholas Hayter and Library Technician Deborah Harrington. In this first video, Principal Hayter describes how he saw opportunities to reshape the school’s library from a traditional school library into a Learning Commons.

Visiting the school part way through the changes, we can see how things are evolving and learn about what is yet to come. Principal Hayter tells us that these changes are not about following a trend; that the changes at this school are a result of talking with teaching and library staff, seeing what everyone’s needs are, and then working collaboratively with everyone to create a communal space where learning can work even better.

Coming soon, our interview with Deborah Harrington on working in the Beechwood Elementary School library and how things are changing.
