Wow! Well said and grateful thanks to NCTE for this heartfelt paean to school and public librarians. It’s a great way to start the new school year on a positive note and with our intended goal in mind.

Ms. McNabb has done a great job of underscoring how important librarians are in helping out students, and staff, with the inquiry process in particular as well as the many roles we play. She also stresses that, with most librarians, you have but to ask to receive help in the form of relevant books on a trolley, support with technology and research whether in or out of the classroom. She admits to having taken “the past to least resistance”, at times, and not having taken her students to the library; I particularly enjoyed her reference to having settled on using Google… After having read the post, a few words stayed with me: collaboration, modeling, high standards and open hearts.

Welcome to this new school year!
