On March 16th and March 17th, school library personnel from across Quebec got together for the annual MELS Library Symposium.  This year’s theme was Dream, Plan, Create. 

Keynote speaker Joanne de Groot got us thinking about the exciting possibilities that the Canadian Library Association standards can ignite right here in Quebec; a main focus of her talk was makerspaces.  During Makerspace Mayhem, each table had a box of various items that could allow for creation. For example, one table had Legos, another had iPads, another had masking tape.

The sessions were exciting. We got virtual as Sandra Bebbington introduced us to the world of Minecraft while Julia Wagner showed us Virtual Worlds.  All of these are an essential part of many of our students’ lives. Sessions on dream collections and Reading Connections brought us back to the world of books.  The Principals’ Panel shed light on how administrators see school libraries.  There was a lot to learn and the photos below will give you a sense of how much fun learning from our colleagues can be.
