March is Women’s History Month and though it’s almost over, I thought I might share another list of books that are fun to read, have strong female protagonists and solid stories.  This list comes from Book Riot, a great source for librarians and avid readers.

Book Riot is not specifically for librarians; it’s for people who love books. Today on their homepage, they have columns on the best and worst states for bookstores, books that we read too soon, and a dream cast for Little Women.  It allows you to sign up for podcasts and today’s deal (as I write this) is to download a version of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale for $2.99.

The Best Feminist Books for Younger Readers offers up some interesting soundiWe_Can_Do_It!ng titles such as The Princess in Black, The Wollenstonecraft Detective Agency, Zita the Space Girl, and a book with a rather pink cover called Phoebe and Her Unicorn.  I’m not too sure of how feminist that book might be, but I do know that unicorns are pretty attractive these days! Another intriguing title is The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairy Land. It must take some courage to do that.

Most of these books are recommended for ages 8 – 12, which many library folks might consider to be intermediate readers rather than younger readers, but the titles do look like books that kids would want to read and would enjoy.

Book Riot may be your new favourite source for reading suggestions and ideas for activities involving books so be sure to check out this fun site for readers of all ages.
